A quality violin is one of the most important tools for beginners. If you are just starting out, you may have been told to buy a cheap violin. This is not a good idea.
A cheap violin will not sound as good and will not be easy to play. You may even have trouble making it stay in tune. Working with a cheap instrument can cause frustrations and problems not to mention the cost of repairs can end up costing you the price of a good quality violin that won’t cause those problems.
You should be able to find a high-quality instrument at a reasonable price if you know what to look for when shopping around.
When you are shopping around for your first instrument, do not just go by price alone or by the size or shape of the box it comes in or how pretty it looks on display at your local music store or pawn shop. Look at the materials used in construction and make sure they are solid woods like spruce and maple instead of plywood.
